What is a Wind-On Leader?

What is a Wind-On Leader?

A wind-on leader is a knot-free connection between the braid and the leader.

Forget about PR, FG or any other: with a wind-on you just make the Loop to Loop connection and you're fishing in seconds.

Its construction consists of inserting 40-50 cm of monofilament into a hollow braid of equal or greater strength. The tension itself strangles the monofilament: the more the fish pulls, the firmer the bond becomes.

The final closure is sealed and protected by hand with flexible glue, preventing it from being worn down by friction with each cast.

➡️ It doesn't last forever, but a well-maintained wind-on can safely give you many catches .

How do I make them?

I make them by hand, one by one , with premium materials.

“But I tie knots very well…”

Of course, and many expert fishermen are true masters of PR or FG.

Still, most prefer wind-on because:

They do not generate protuberances in the line.

The diameter is uniform (only the thickness of the bass).

Instead of 5-8 cm of knot, you have 45 cm of perfect insertion .

In combat, this translates into maximum smoothness and guaranteed resistance.

Why monofilament in trolling?

In trolling and drifting, monofilament better withstands the prolonged pulls of large pelagics.

Plus, since there are no staples or bulky knots , you can easily reel in the line until the catch, without having to manually work the last few meters of heavy line. Greater fluidity, greater control, and greater safety.
